Shipping to Europe? Merchant Invoices Are Now Required for These MyUS Destinations

Shopping from your favorite international retailers comes with a little paperwork, and keeping your merchant invoices handy is now especially important when shipping to Europe.

MyUS now requires merchant invoices for packages shipping to 30 European destinations. If you ship to one of the countries listed below, please upload your merchant invoices to your MyUS account.

This update comes as customs authorities place greater emphasis on detailed product information. Beginning November 1, 2026, applicable business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce imports entering the European Union will also require product identifiers in their customs declarations.

Here’s what the invoice requirement means for your MyUS packages, how to upload your documents, and how it connects to the EU’s upcoming customs data changes.

Which European Destinations Require Merchant Invoices?

Merchant invoices are now required for MyUS packages shipping to:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Cyprus
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Latvia
  • Liechtenstein
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Malta
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal

If your destination appears on this list, save your merchant invoices when you shop and upload them to your MyUS account for the corresponding packages.

This list includes EU countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. The MyUS invoice requirement applies to all listed destinations, while the EU customs changes discussed below apply to qualifying imports entering the EU.

What Is a Merchant Invoice?

A merchant invoice is a document the retailer or seller provides that records what you purchased and how much you paid.

It typically includes:

  • The retailer’s or seller’s name
  • An order or invoice number
  • The purchase date
  • Descriptions of the items purchased
  • Item quantities
  • Item prices and the order total

Depending on the retailer, it may also include product numbers, model information, or other identifiers.

You can often find your invoice in your retailer account’s order history or attached to an order or shipping email. If you cannot locate it, contact the retailer and request a copy.

A merchant invoice is different from a shipping label or tracking confirmation. Those documents show where a package is going, but they may not include the purchase details needed for shipment documentation.

Why Does MyUS Need My Merchant Invoice?

Accurate shipment documentation starts with accurate purchase information.

Your merchant invoice helps MyUS verify the items in your package and their purchase values. It also provides a seller record that can support preparation and review of customs documentation.

For example, an invoice that identifies a specific product and its price provides more useful information than a general description such as “accessories” or a payment total without an item breakdown.

Uploading a complete invoice helps reduce follow-up requests caused by missing purchase information. However, an invoice may not contain every detail required for a particular shipment, and MyUS or customs authorities may still request additional documentation.

What Changes for EU Imports on November 1, 2026?

As explained in our EU customs update, the European Union is expanding the product information required for applicable e-commerce imports.

Beginning November 1, 2026, qualifying customs declarations must include product identifiers. These codes help customs authorities identify and trace products more precisely.

The identifiers include:

Product Identifier What it identifies
Merchant Product Identifier (M-PID) A product code assigned by an online seller, marketplace, or platform.
Non-standardized Manufacturer Product Identifier (NS-PID) A product code assigned by a manufacturer, producer, or supplier within its own systems.
Standardized Manufacturer Product Identifier A product identifier based on a recognized standard, such as an EAN or ISBN, when available.

These requirements give customs authorities more specific information about the goods entering the EU and support product traceability and compliance checks.

How Are Merchant Invoices Connected to Product Identifiers?

Merchant invoices and product identifiers provide different types of information about your purchases.

An invoice records the transaction: what you bought, who sold it, and what you paid. Product identifiers help identify the particular products involved.

Some retailers include product codes directly on their invoices. Others display them in order details or on product listings. Keeping the original invoice and purchase information available can help if you need more details during shipment processing.

However, uploading an invoice does not automatically mean you've provided every required product identifier. An invoice may show an item description and price without including a manufacturer’s code or standardized identifier.

For MyUS members, the first step is straightforward: upload your merchant invoices and respond to any additional requests in your account.

How to Upload Your Merchant Invoice to MyUS

When your package requires an invoice:

  1. Sign in to your MyUS account.
  2. Open My Suite and go to the Action Required tab.
  3. Select Upload Merchant Invoice for the indicated package.
  4. Follow the prompts to upload your documentation, making sure the invoices cover all items in that package.
  5. Check your account for updates or requests for additional information.

What Should You Check Before Uploading?

Take a moment to review your document before submitting it.

Make Sure the Invoice Is Readable

Item descriptions, quantities, and prices should be clear. Avoid cutting off information at the edges of the document.

Include Every Item in the Package

If your package contains several purchases, make sure your documentation accounts for all of them. An invoice for only part of the contents may leave information missing.

Match the Invoice to the Correct Package

Check the retailer, order details, and package information before uploading. This is especially helpful when several orders arrive around the same time.

Keep Product Information Visible

If your invoice includes product numbers, model details, or other identifiers, leave that information visible. It may help identify your purchases if additional details are needed.

Use the Actual Purchase Information

Provide the seller-issued invoice reflecting your purchase. If anything on the invoice appears incorrect, contact the retailer for clarification.

What If My Retailer Didn’t Include an Invoice?

Start by checking your order history on the retailer’s website. Many retailers let you view or download an invoice after you place or ship an order.

If an invoice is not available there, contact the seller and request one showing the items purchased and the prices paid.

If you still cannot obtain an invoice, contact MyUS Customer Service for guidance. Other documents may not contain the information needed for your package, so seek assistance before assuming a payment confirmation or shipping notice will be sufficient.

Do I Need to Find Product Codes Myself?

Start with the documents and requests shown in your MyUS account.

Product identifiers generally originate with sellers, marketplaces, manufacturers, or suppliers. You should not create or guess a code for an item.

If more product information is needed, you may be asked to provide additional purchase details or obtain information from the retailer. Saving your order details and product links alongside your invoice can make that follow-up easier.

Does This Change Customs Duties or VAT?

The invoice requirement concerns shipment documentation. Uploading an invoice does not remove any customs duties, VAT, or other applicable import charges.

For background on the EU’s separate customs duty changes, read EU De Minimis Removal: What It Means for Your MyUS Shipments.

If you are shipping to Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway, review the requirements for your specific destination. The EU changes described in that article do not apply to import charges for those countries.

Will Providing an Invoice Prevent Shipping Delays?

Complete documentation helps reduce avoidable delays, but it cannot guarantee a processing time or customs release.

MyUS may need clarification about an invoice or an item, and customs authorities can request more information or inspect a shipment.

You can help keep your package moving by uploading the correct invoice, checking your account for outstanding requests, and responding promptly when additional information is needed.

Keep Your Invoices Ready for Your Next Shipment

If you ship to one of the 30 destinations listed above, make saving your merchant invoice part of your shopping routine.

Download it when it becomes available, keep it with your order information, and upload it for the corresponding package in your MyUS account. A few minutes of preparation can help reduce missing-document requests as your purchases move through shipment processing.
