World Bee Day is May 20th!

Yellow graphic with Bee icon that reads world bee day is may 20

While it seems that every cause, food, or activity has a recognized day on the calendar these days, we should all stand up and take notice of World Bee Day on 20 May.

Why? Simply put, bees have become increasingly endangered over the last decade due to a wide range of factors, including climate change, urbanization, mass use of neonicotinoids, which are used to protect plants in many modern farms.

Now, you might be thinking, fewer bees flying around isn’t the worse thing, right? They sting, fly in your car window when your driving, and can be quite the pest at picnics. But bees play an enormous role in our ecosystem.

As the largest group of pollinators, they are responsible for bringing us one out of every three bites of food by carrying pollen from plant to plant, according to Pollinator Partnership, and their shrinking population is quickly turning into a global crisis.

How can we help the bees?

If you have a garden, yard, or even an area outside for a pot, you can plant flowers and avoid using pesticides and products with neonicotinoids. At the store, you can buy local honey and locally produced organic foods. And for World Bee Day, you can shop products online that support bees.

To get you started, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite new products that support and protect bees, and they can all be shipped worldwide from US websites with MyUS:

Made of organic cotton, sustainably harvested beeswax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin, Bee's Wrap is an alternative to disposable plastic wrap, lasting approximately one year when used several times each week. That in itself is a big win for the environment, but the company also gives back to bees and supports The Bee Cause, a nonprofit that places beehives in schools and provides young people with opportunities to understand, engage, and learn from honey bees.
