DO I HAVE TO PAY DUTIES AND TAXES WHEN SHOPPING FROM THE US AND UK AND SHIPPING TO AUSTRALIA?
Depending on the products you purchase, your country’s customs agency may determine you owe a duty or tax. Nearly every shipment that crosses an international border is subject to the assessment of duties and taxes. Each country determines the assessment of duties and taxes differently.
Your country's de minimis value determines if local customs will assess a duty or tax on your shipment.
Duties and VAT are calculated as a percentage of the customs value of the goods (item + insurance + shipping).
MyUS offers the option to pay duties at the time of shipping for eligible international shipments, or you will be billed directly by your global carrier.
Declared Value of Merchandise
Customs officials use the declared value of an item to determine duties and taxes. Before MyUS can ship an item, you must provide an accurate value or merchant invoice.
Duty/Tax Free Amount (De Minimis Value)
The de minimis value is a country-specific value below which no duty or tax is charged, and clearance procedures are minimal. If you are importing a shipment with a total declared value LESS than this amount, duty and tax do not apply (certain products may be subject to other types of fees or taxes). The de minimis value is usually different for duties than it is for taxes.
Delivery Duty Paid Options
MyUS offers the option to streamline your shipping process and prepay duties on eligible shipments to 130+ countries. This means you can prepay applicable duties in one simple payment along with your shipping costs, rather than making a separate duties payment in your country after your shipment arrives.
This simplifies the delivery process, so you won’t need to make an additional payment before you can get your shipment or go somewhere to collect your shipment once it arrives in your country. Instead, you can cover all your costs in one simple payment along with your shipping costs, with no surprises upon delivery, since you have already seen and prepaid any applicable duties at the time of shipping.
When this service is selected in your online account or shipping request, MyUS guarantees your duties payment amount! If duties end up being less than what you prepaid at the time of shipping, MyUS will refund you the difference. If additional charges apply once your shipment arrives in your country, MyUS will refund you any additional costs over what you paid at the time of shipment.
As of July 1, 2019, certain tobacco products will be deemed a ‘prohibited import’ into Australia. This will mean that to bring tobacco products into Australia (such as cigarettes, molasses tobacco, and loose-leaf tobacco), a person will need to have a permit issued by the Department of Home Affairs.
This prohibition has exclusions and does not apply to the following goods:
* Applies to international shipping from the USA via DHL, FedEx, and UPS and "Budget Carrier" options. Excludes oversized shipments and palletized shipments. Oversized shipments are those with linear dimensions (total Length + Width + Height) greater than 72 inches (183 cm). Items requiring some types of special packaging (e.g. crates), are not eligible for MyUS TruePrice pricing. MyUS TruePrice guarantee does not include additional or optional services such as insurance, dangerous goods fees, customs, duties or taxes.
POPULAR US AND UK BRANDS YOU CAN SHIP TO AUSTRALIA WITH MyUS
Yes. Due to Australian Customs regulations, there are a few important considerations to keep in mind when shipping to Australia:
We must have record of the seller’s name and address before we can export any package to Australia. In most cases, this information is included on the merchant invoice included with your package. If the merchant does not include an invoice, or if the invoice does not list the seller’s name and address, your shipment may experience a delay while we collect this information.
Shipping via DHL and UPS: We can send merchandise from a single seller to Australia via DHL and UPS regardless of value.
We can ship Dangerous Goods to Australia via FedEx and DHL for you. Each carrier has specifications regarding the delivery area, quantity and type of commodity. We will automatically ship your goods with the carrier that can transport your items. In some cases, this may require that we remove an item or items from your shipment and send them in a separate shipment via an alternate carrier. We will always inform you if your package contains Dangerous Goods when it arrives and when you submit a shipment request. If you submit a ship request that does not meet the criteria for delivery by your preferred courier, we will automatically ship your package by the appropriate courier.
Australian customs charges a 10% goods and services tax (GST) on merchandise, services and shipping costs for packages imported into Australia. Learn more about GST
This FAQ is subject to periodic updates. MyUS is committed to providing the best possible experience to its members, and is continually working with couriers to offer you as many options as possible.
When you import goods into Australia, a 10% goods and services tax (GST) is charged by Australian customs. In the past, Australian customs has collected GST on goods and services valued over 1,000 AUD, and as of 1 July 2018, GST will also be charged on shipments equal or less than 1,000 AUD.
How is GST calculated?
GST is based on the value of the items you ship, plus any service and shipping charges. Australian customs collects GST on individual merchant shipments over 1,000 AUD, and MyUS is responsible for collecting GST on shipments equal or less than 1,000 AUD. Any GST charges will appear on your ship request.
GST is valued and charged for each individual store (e.g., if you ship a consolidated package with MyUS with a $200 item from Store A and $1,200 item from Store B, MyUS will collect the GST for Store A, and Australian customs will collect the GST for Store B.) Learn more

Yes. We can export Dangerous Goods, but our couriers have certain restrictions that may affect how we send these items to you:
DHL can transport Dangerous Goods to all areas of Australia. However, DHL can only import shipments that contain merchandise from a single seller/single purchaser.
FedEx can transport Dangerous Goods to certain postal codes in Australia.
UPS and USPS cannot transport Dangerous Goods to Australia
If you submit a shipment request for a package containing Dangerous Goods, the MyUS packaging team may split these goods into separate packages for delivery via DHL in order to comply with courier restrictions and prevent delays.
Dangerous Goods require special handling, and we can only include limited quantities of some commodities in a single shipment. In some cases, it may be necessary to split Dangerous Goods into multiple shipments.
Courier restrictions change frequently. For questions about a specific item or shipment, please Contact Us.
In some cases, it may be necessary to alter your shipping preference to meet Australia import requirements. Situations that may require adjustments to your shipping preferences include:
DHL Shipments: DHL can import shipments that contain orders from a single seller or single purchaser. We must send shipments that do not meet this requirement via FedEx to avoid delays.
Shipments containing Dangerous Goods: FedEx is only able to send shipments that contain Dangerous Goods to certain postal codes. USPS is unable to transport Dangerous Goods. If you request shipment of Dangerous Goods via one of these couriers, the MyUS Packaging Team will split the Dangerous Goods and ship them with DHL Express. This might require that we send out multiple shipments on the same day; one with your requested carrier and one or more shipments via DHL.
Read more about carrier requirements for shipments destined to Australia here. Other conditions may also require that we alter your shipping preferences to comply with import and export regulations. If you have questions about a specific item or shipment, please contact us.

TAX: As of 1 July 2018, Australian goods and services tax (GST) will apply to shipments that have a total value of 1,000 AUD or less being imported into Australia. Most goods and services you purchase locally in Australia automatically
include GST in the price, but now companies importing goods and services from around the world are required to collect the tax directly from Australian shoppers. GST is calculated based on the value of the items you ship from a merchant, plus MyUS service and
shipping charges. GST has always been collected by Australian customs on goods and services from the USA that are valued over 1,000 AUD, but as of 1 July 2018, if the total value is under 1,000 AUD, you are now required to pay GST as well and we will be collecting that tax.
GST is valued and charged per merchant. That means if you ship a consolidated package with MyUS that has a $200 item from Merchant A, and $1,200 item from Merchant B, you will still be charged GST for Merchant A. Learn more about GST here.
DUTIES: If you're shipping a package to AUS with a total declared value LESS than the below listed "de minimis value" amount, then duties will not apply. However, please be aware that certain items may be subject to other types of fees
or taxes according to Australian law.
De minimis Value for Duty: 1,000 AUD*
De minimis Value for Tax: 0 AUD*
USPS De minimis Value for Duty: 1,000 AUD*
USPS De minimis Value for Tax: 0 AUD*
*excluding alcohol and tobacco where duty/tax apply
If GST is due, it will be noted on your MyUS ship request. Other applicable Australian duties and taxes will not be included in your MyUS shipping costs. You may be responsible for paying additional duty and taxes upon delivery of your package in Australia.
Delivery Duty Paid Options:
For eligible shipments, MyUS offers the option to send shipments Delivery Duties Paid (DDP). This means you can pay for applicable duties directly to MyUS when you submit a ship request, rather than paying them in your country after they arrive. When this service is selected in your online account or shipping request, you can pay for any duties in one simple payment, along with your shipping costs. This streamlines the delivery process so you can cover all your costs in one simple payment, and MyUS guarantees your payment amount.
