DO I HAVE TO PAY DUTIES AND TAXES WHEN SHOPPING FROM THE US AND UK AND SHIPPING TO NEW ZEALAND?
Depending on the products you purchase, your country’s customs agency may determine you owe a duty or tax. Nearly every shipment that crosses an international border is subject to the assessment of duties and taxes. Each country determines the assessment of duties and taxes differently.
Your country's de minimis value determines if local customs will assess a duty or tax on your shipment.
Duties and VAT are calculated as a percentage of the customs value of the goods (item + insurance + shipping).
MyUS offers the option to pay duties at the time of shipping for eligible international shipments, or you will be billed directly by your global carrier.
Declared Value of Merchandise
Customs officials use the declared value of an item to determine duties and taxes. Before MyUS can ship an item, you must provide an accurate value or merchant invoice.
Duty/Tax Free Amount (De Minimis Value)
The de minimis value is a country-specific value below which no duty or tax is charged, and clearance procedures are minimal. If you are importing a shipment with a total declared value LESS than this amount, duty and tax do not apply (certain products may be subject to other types of fees or taxes). The de minimis value is usually different for duties than it is for taxes.
Delivery Duty Paid Options
MyUS offers the option to streamline your shipping process and prepay duties on eligible shipments to 130+ countries. This means you can prepay applicable duties in one simple payment along with your shipping costs, rather than making a separate duties payment in your country after your shipment arrives.
This simplifies the delivery process, so you won’t need to make an additional payment before you can get your shipment or go somewhere to collect your shipment once it arrives in your country. Instead, you can cover all your costs in one simple payment along with your shipping costs, with no surprises upon delivery, since you have already seen and prepaid any applicable duties at the time of shipping.
When this service is selected in your online account or shipping request, MyUS guarantees your duties payment amount! If duties end up being less than what you prepaid at the time of shipping, MyUS will refund you the difference. If additional charges apply once your shipment arrives in your country, MyUS will refund you any additional costs over what you paid at the time of shipment.
Beginning 1 December 2019, a 15% goods and services tax (GST) will be applied to any shipments being imported to New Zealand. Most goods and services you purchase locally already include GST, but as of December 1, companies importing goods and services from around the world are required to collect this tax directly from Kiwi shoppers as well.
How is GST calculated? GST is calculated based on the total cost of a shipment. This means you are taxed on the value of what you ship, as well as on the cost of shipping services, including insurance, if selected. For example, if you purchase a guitar from the US for $600 USD ($942 NZD) with shipping for $50 USD ($79 NZD), you would pay 15% GST on the total cost of the guitar and shipping, USD $97.50 ($154 NZD). This would make your total cost to purchase and ship the guitar $600 + $50 + $97.50 = $747.50 USD ($1174 NZD).
Important note about GST: While MyUS will be collecting GST on total shipment costs to New Zealand, other governmental fees may apply to your shipments, including additional GST on those governmental fees. Those fees will not be collected by MyUS, but if they apply, you will be responsible to pay them upon arrival in New Zealand.

shipping multiple items of differing value in a single shipment.
Duties: Certain countries have a "de minimis" value. If your purchases are below this value, duty and tax do not apply. However, New Zealand does not have a de minimis value.
Delivery Duty Paid Options:
For eligible shipments, MyUS offers the option to send shipments Delivery Duties Paid (DDP). This means you can pay for applicable duties directly to MyUS when you submit a ship request, rather than paying them in your country after they arrive. When this service is selected in your online account or shipping request, you can pay for any duties in one simple payment, along with your shipping costs. This streamlines the delivery process so you can cover all your costs in one simple payment, and MyUS guarantees your payment amount.

I would like to thank Tom S for the care that he took in packaging my sword for shipment to New Zealand. It arrived so quickly and was undamaged to the point that my son who is getting the sword for his birthday will be able to display it in the HOBBIT brand box because it was so well protected by the packaging.
